Project Detail

Handa House

The primary issue while designing this home was the budget. There was a very limited and fixed budget. The architects looked towards the vernacular architectural techniques popularised by Lauri Baker. The LBBC were brought in as contractors for the value addition they provided. Reduction in energy consumption via passive architectural design was also an issue the architects got an opportunity to explore. The basic design of the house revolves around a central atrium which acts as a cooling tower. Rat trap bonds are used in the brick masonry and the roof slabs are cast in RBC.
